Food Packing Tip

Freeze dried meals are primo for weight and space, but you can reduce even more space. If you are using a bear canister, you know how important space is! First, cut excess packaging material off. Second, pierce the inflated packaging with a safety pin, deflate and tape over the hole.
If you are traveling solo or have an odd number of trekkers to feed, you can save money and space by buying a larger meal pack and then dividing it into an appropriate number of servings. Only take the servings you need and save the rest. Repackage meals into Ziploc freezer bags (heavy duty). You can add hot water to the bags and prepare your meal within. Ziploc doesn't recommend this, but it works. Enjoy!
